The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks was founded by a group of actors and entertainers in New York City, establishing the principles of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love, and Fidelity.
First VA Hospital Established
The Elks established the first Veterans Administration hospital, beginning a century-long commitment to serving those who served our nation.
Over 2,000 National Lodges
The Elks organization grew to over 2,000 lodges nationwide, becoming one of America's largest fraternal organizations.
Bishop Lodge #1603 History
Bishop Elks Lodge #1603 Chartered
Bishop Elks Lodge #1603 was officially chartered in 1937, sponsored by Goldfield, Nevada Lodge, becoming the Eastern Sierra's premier fraternal organization dedicated to community service and fellowship.
Lodge Building Completed
Our current lodge building at 151 E Line St was completed, providing a permanent home for Elks activities and community events in Bishop.
Youth Programs Expanded
Bishop Elks expanded youth programs including Boy Scout charter sponsorship and the first local scholarship awards.
